Program Notes
The title for this piece, Time, reflects several meanings. The first meaning of the title is the abundance of changing time signatures in the piece. The single underlying theme is that the eighth-note remains the same, whatever the time.
Second, the musical styles employed by each movement are representative of those of time periods throughout musical history: from the Baroque and Renaissance-like opening sections of fugue, call-and-response, to the Romanticism of the second movement, and finally to the more modern harmonies and time signatures of the third movement.
