Marie is a mid-tempo swing chart in Basie style built on an open fifth motive set to the name, “ma-REE.” Tenors and ‘bones get to shine while introducing the melody, which goes on to be fleshed out with jazz counterpoint between the sections and again in a sax soli. Tenor Sax and Piano solos are included.

Marie is named in memory of a lovingly feisty nonagenarian who stole our hearts as a frequent audience member at our performances. This mid-tempo swing chart in Basie style captures her mischievous personality from the outset with the repetitive open fifth motive set to her name, “ma-REE.”
