The Zimmy Shimmy is a medium-tempo swing chart in a bluesy setting. The bouncy melody requires students to focus on Big Band-style jazz articulations in order to achieve the intended feel of playfulness. An a cappella brass soli with tight harmonies leads to an exciting shout chorus colored by an independent sax line. Three solo sections include both optional written solos and chord symbols for students who are ready to improvise.

Program Notes
The Zimmy Shimmy was composed for Ms. Joanne A. Zimmerman, Band Director in the Brockport Central School District (New York), to honor her thirty-three years of dedication, service, and commitment to excellence. We hope the relaxed swing feel and bluesy setting capture both her genuine enthusiasm and her laid-back swagger in a way that continues her legacy of inspiration.
