Program Notes
BlueShift for percussion ensemble captures the sensation of motion and energy accelerating forward. Inspired by the scientific idea of frequencies moving toward the blue end of the spectrum, the music gradually intensifies—rhythms tighten, textures brighten, and the sonic palette becomes more vibrant. Metallic instruments shimmer like distant stars, while layered grooves in marimba and battery push the momentum ahead. Accents and rhythmic “pulls” create the feeling of being drawn closer to a powerful force, as if the ensemble itself is rushing through space.
