This is a fun yet complex arrangement of Joplin's Bethena. It is a waltz consisting of five strains, and some complex interludes. It is elegant, intricate, and emotional.

Bethena is a gem of a song by Scott Joplin. Written presumably as a tribute to his late wife (who died two months into their marriage.) Happy, but sprinkled with minor chords, Bethena becomes a sadly poignant piece, remembering the good times, but aware that these will never return. Although ragtime in feel, as a waltz, Bethena has a charm and delicacy unlike any other rag by Joplin or any of his contemporaries. Unknown on Mar 22nd 2024
