Ye Banks and Braes O’ Bonnie Doon is a Grade 3, well-suited for the mature junior high or high school band. The opening 16 bars of this well-known setting of Percy Grainger’s have been re-scored for the mallet ensemble (Vibes plus four players on 2 marimbas, with added parts for bells, chimes, timpani and suspended cymbal). The opening is also cued for winds so that the percussion and wind parts can be mixed, or the arrangement can be played with winds only.

    Program Notes
The opening 16 bars of this well-known setting of Percy Grainger’s have been re-scored for the mallet ensemble (Vibes plus four players on 2 marimbas, with added parts for bells, chimes, timpani and suspended cymbal). The opening is also cued for winds so that the percussion and wind parts can be mixed, or the arrangement can be played with winds only. The percussion parts can also be performed separately from the wind parts, as a percussion ensemble. Conductors familiar with some of the pitfalls of Percy’s original scoring may be encouraged to see that Grainger’s original textures have been retained while increasing the “playability” of this classic for younger musicians.

Ye Banks and Braes O’ Bonnie Doon is a Grade 3, well-suited for the mature junior high or high school band. Length 2’20”.

Alan Publications. http://c-alanpublications.com/ye-banks-and-braes-o-bonnie-doon/ One of several possibilities for this imaginative scoring of Percy Grainger's "Ye Banks and Braes, O' Bonnie Doon". This performance uses the arrangement "as written", with none of the wind cues utilized, and features the mallet ensemble for the first 16 bars. Music available at www.auxarcsmusic.com
