Program Notes
Winter’s End may be performed as a solo marimba piece or with the included optional piano accompaniment. The fast-moving first section beings in G major, but moves into E minor at letter B. The off-beat accents are particularly important, as they give the opening melody its distinctive character. This leads to the slow section at D, which requires smooth roll technique. Be sure to strive for a legato style, connecting the rolls and carefully observing the dynamics. The D.C. al Coda takes us back to the opening theme, skipping the E minor section and moving to a codetta at letter F, bringing the piece to a strong conclusion.
