Twisted Proverbs

Alan Publications (www.c-alanpublications.com) Commissioned by the Empire State Youth Percussion Ensemble for ESYO's New Music for a New Generation Festival supported by the New York State Music Fund. Written for ten percussionists, this intense hard driving composition is a challenge for the more advanced ensemble. Each player uses multiple instruments throughout the piece with the exception of one marimba part. Instrumentation: Percussion 1 (bells, xylophone, cabasa, 16-18" thin suspended cymbal, medium & high woodblock, slapstick) Percussion 2 (3-octave vibraphone, 2 congas) Percussion 3 (3-octave vibraphone, guiro, 2 cowbells) Percussion 4 (4-octave marimba, snare drum) Percussion 5 (4.3-octave marimba, China cymbal) Percussion 6 (4.3-octave marimba) Percussion 7 (4.3-octave marimba, chimes, medium low concert tom, 2-pitched log drum) Percussion 8 (2 high concert toms, bongos, 15-16" thin suspended cymbal, 18-20" medium suspended cymbal) Percussion 9 (small bass drum, 2 medium concert toms, snare drum, 2 triangles, low woodblocks) Percussion 10 (large bass drum, low concert tom, China cymbal, claves)
