Program Notes
In the spring of 2016, my wife and I visited the city of Marrakesh, Morocco. As we flew over the vast Sahara desert to reach the city, it was striking how this beautiful and fascinating city was surrounded by such immense desert. I was inspired to write a piece of music that captured the essence of the city, its beautiful gardens, iconic architecture, vivid colors, aromatic cuisine, maze-like thousand-year-old market, and bustling central square. Through a combination of dance-like and lyrical melodies, syncopated rhythms, and mode mixture, the band will transport you to Marrakesh!
