Stix and Out (Jazz Ens Gr. 3.5)

Stix and Out is a drum feature written in a medium funk style. The title Stix and Out is a play on words of a phrase from the game of cricket. Many a child raised in Australia has played a version of backyard cricket during the summer months and the phrase ‘six and out’ is embedded in Aussie culture as way of discouraging hitting the ball over the neighbours fence! If you did so, you were awarded 6 runs but declared ‘out’. As kids though, you still wanted to hit the ball out of the park anyhow. Let’s hope the band’s drummer does likewise!
