Program Notes
Charlie Chaplin’s classic song from the 1936 silent film "Modern Times" is arranged as a beguine featuring the full ensemble. Famous recordings by Nat King Cole, Michael Jackson, and many others have given this standard enduring popularity across generations. Chaplin’s original harmonies have been enhanced with upper extensions and substitutions. The melody floats between the sections throughout, including a pass as an orchestral piano solo. A sax soli over the entire form takes the place of the traditional solo section. Parts are included for Congas and Maracas, and additional Latin percussion can be added at the discretion of the director.
