Program Notes

Shimmering Fanfare is dedicated to long time Berkeley County Band Director Kathleen C. (Katy) Vogt. Everyone learned so much watching Katy direct her students. Her expectations and standards were very high but still attainable if the students put forth the effort. She wanted the best for each student, not just in band class but in life. Even in retirement Katy is still teaching in classrooms all over Berkeley county, changing lives and instilling a passion for music in all students.

This piece was written to sound like a superhero movie soundtrack because Katy has truly been a superhero to so many people throughout her career. One fun and notable attribute about Katy is she always dressed for the occasion when conducting concerts. The title Shimmering Fanfare is meant to reflect her glamorous spirit and her sparkling and amazingly fun choices in concert wear.
