Setting goals is a common and mostly healthy activity undertaken by individuals looking to improve some aspect of their lives. Charting and embarking on the course to achieve these self-imposed benchmarks requires stamina and a headstrong mindset that continually issues the constant reminder... DON’T GIVE UP! The title of this work is an accurate descriptor of the driving and unyielding forward motion that characterizes the music, even as harmonic and rhythmic obstacles are encountered. The energy culminates in a bang!

The title of this work is an accurate descriptor of the driving and unyielding forward motion that characterizes the music, even as harmonic and rhythmic obstacles are encountered. The energy culminates in a bang! It was written for the Obra Tompkins High School Symphony Orchestra in Katy, Texas on the occasion of their selection to perform at the 2024 Midwest Clinic in Chicago. They later performed the work in February 2025 in San Antonio as the TMEA High School Honor Orchestra. The composer greatly appreciates the input and guidance from conductors Matt Porter and Stephen Bond, and engraver Brenden Steber.
