Rags to Riches is a piece of music set in a march style that was composed to commemorate the opening of the 100th Salvation Army Charity Shop in the United Kingdom. The title is derived from the idea of used clothing and goods that are recycled to give them another life to help generate financial support for the charity. The music itself contains tunes that refer to used or second hand goods, eg ‘My old man’s a dustman’, ‘Second hand Rose’ and the theme tune to ‘Steptoe and Son’ amongst others.
