Written for a 4.3 octave marimba, Kaiser uses the entire range of the keyboard on this energetic solo. As the title suggests, Minotaurus is an aggressive solo with many technical challenges. This forceful composition can be showcased on any student recital or concert.

    • Scotty Horey performs "Minotaurus 4.3" by Leander Kaiser

After winning a composition contest for “Best Neo-Classical Solo Marimba Piece”, I was asked to perform the world premiere of this work in 2008. This is a humble yet enjoyable piece that I have kept in my repertoire over the years. The thought that keeps me engaged with this piece has always been my lifelong admiration of classical pianists. I’m certainly “no Ann DuHamel”!, but I hope you enjoy the catchy melody (which almost suggests epic progressive rock!), a middle section that brings to mind Paganini, and familiar harmonies singing from the rosewood resonating in the hall.
