The Joy of Christmas, originally composed in 1973, is a suite of traditional Christmas songs. ‘The seven joys of Mary’ and ‘Past three o’clock’, feature in the outer movements and are carols more likely to be performed by a choir. On the other hand ‘O little town of Bethlehem’, which is the centre piece of this suite, is a firm favourite for many and often featured in community carol singing occasions.
