Program Notes
Originally written as a duet for marimba and vibraphone, Ice was written for my colleagues Brian Lowe and Izzie Holland. It has been expanded here for quartet, adding two battery/auxiliary percussion parts. I intended for the mood of the tune to be "chill", leading to the name Ice for the title of the composition. There's a lot of jazz influenced harmonies with minor 7th chords and a few 2-5-1 chord sequences. Both the vibe and marimba have moments to shine with melodic features throughout while the other instrument accompanies.
