Program Notes
The Golden Baton March was composed as a tribute to the many band conductors who have reached their “golden” years of conducting. Being on the podium in front of so many musicians is an honor and a privilege in of itself, but being on the podium in your golden years and commanding a band is absolute joy.
It is said that one never loses the ability to ride a bicycle and the same can be said of conducting. The only difference, riding a bicycle for the most part gets you from point A to point B, while conducting a band puts you in the foreman’s seat of a musically aesthetic and transpiring experience. So for all those many “golden” conductors, here’s a march to commemorate your many years on the podium making great music.
