Five Pieces for Clarinet and Percussion Orchestra was written in 1986 and premiered by J.C. Combs and the Wichita State University Percussion Ensemble with James, Jones, solo clarinet.
Using traditional percussion instruments, Parker creates a dialogue between the soloist and percussion ensemble that allows each to enjoy its own identity while achieving the kind of musical sensitivity found only in a rare number of compositions. You can hear a recording of “Five Pieces” on the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s CD, “Sketches”(also available from C. Alan Publications).
