Epic! pays homage to the boisterous "epic blockbuster action film" style of music so common in big-budget Hollywood films and video games. Filled with dramatic and energetic tunes, colorful textures, and big-time grooves, the piece was commissioned by two band director brothers to feature and challenge their percussion sections.

Epic! pays homage to the boisterous "epic blockbuster action film" style of music so common in big-budget Hollywood films and video games. Filled with dramatic and energetic tunes, colorful textures, and big-time grooves, Epic! was commissioned by two band director brothers to feature and challenge their percussion sections. The spotlight shines brightly upon the mallet instruments, whose players lead the ensemble in performing some of the key melodies, but the other percussion parts are equally active and provide most of the motor and groove that drive Epic! Depending upon each band's percussion section size and skill level, as well as instrument collection, as few as two or as many as seven different percussion parts may be woven into the overall musical tapestry. I hope you enjoy listening to Epic! as much as I did writing it, and perhaps you'll be inspired to stomp and clap along with the band when they do, making the piece more epic than ever!
