After a free, improvisational introduction with many special effects (bass drum roll inside piano, bowed tam-tam, wire brush on piano string, etc.), the tempo takes off in a fast triple meter. Eighths and sixteenths get passed around the ensemble very briskly. Wonderfully unique and effective writing for percussion ensemble.
