Ciudad del Sol is a challenging work for solo vibraphone. It is inspired by the mythical City of the Sun, where inhabitants celebrate life and dance the night away to the sounds of the ancient bell-like instruments, playing obfuscated metric rhythms. It is also rumored to be the place where old people go to die. The “snap pizzicato” technique devised for this piece is to emulate the sound of hands clapping or castanets.
