Program Notes
Attack! was composed during my time as a middle school band director, inspired by a desire to find an exciting way to teach the band a new note—D-flat. However, as I worked through the piece, I realized my true joy of composing lies in creating a sonic narrative. After rehearsing the piece with my band, I asked them what images the music evoked. The consensus was unanimous: they heard a battle unfolding. The piece begins with a fast, aggressive opening, followed by a brief, calmer middle section, before returning to the intensity of the battle. And so, Attack! was born.
