    Program Notes
This percussion trio with Timpani is a composition written in response to triskaidekaphobia, an abnormal fear of the number 13. The work depicts the maddening effects that are triggered by both rational and irrational fears. The number 13 is used as the organizing principal for both time and phrasing throughout the piece. “13” is accompanied by a video montage that expresses the history and origin of triskaidekaphobia while symbolizing general fears and chaos that attribute to phobias in everyday life.

The video montage was made by Jose Rangel.

    • "13" by Tim Forline - CCU Percussion Ensemble

"13” is an original composition composed by Tim Forline, a graduate of Coastal Carolina University. This piece was inspired by triskaidekaphobia, the fear of 13. The fear of 13 can be contributed to the amount of unfortunate events that became associated with the number itself. Examples include Friday the 13th, the Apollo 13 accident, and Judas, the “13th” disciple that betrayed Jesus. Filmed by Jose Rangel Audio mixed by Cynthea Kelley
