There and Back is a palindromic study in minimalism. This work, an exact palindrome, develops an insistent five-note motif over time (going there) and then reverses back all the way to its beginning (coming back). This work balances a meditative quality with an exciting rhythmic drive.

Program Notes
There and Back is a palindromic study in minimalism. The piece is written in four sections of equal length, each divided by shifting the key up a minor third. After the first two sections of the work develop an insistent five-note motif (and get there), the third and fourth sections of the work reverse until they have returned all the way to where the work started (and have come back). This work attempts to find a balance between calm meditation and rhythmic drive.
