Program Notes
A malecón is a stone-built esplanade, seawall, or boardwalk along a waterfront in Spanish-speaking countries, most famously found in Havana, Cuba, and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Tango Malecón depicts a festival experience I had the opportunity to explore in Puerto Vallarta. The event offered a vibrant and romantic atmosphere featuring social milongas (dance gatherings) and a tango class. The lively music, enriched with striking percussion textures, served as the inspiration for this engaging work for developing percussion ensemble.
