Program Notes
Everyone needs to have a Superhero in their life. Someone you can rely on in good times and in bad. Someone you can call with questions and expect an honest answer. Someone you cannot imagine life without.
When Moses Simon approached me about commissioning a work for Roma’s TMEA Honor Percussion Ensemble Concert I asked him if he had any requests or ideas for inspiration. He replied, “I’m a new dad and you’re a father. How about something about that?” I loved that idea and spent a little time reflecting on it. My father passed away the previous year and that was still pretty fresh on my mind. He was my Superhero. To this day I still find myself reaching for my phone to call him when I have a question on how to fix something. He could fix anything (at least in my eyes).
I hope everyone can find at least one Superhero in their life, whether it be a parent, grandparent, teacher, coach, friend, or neighbor. Everyone needs someone to “save the day” for them. Thank you to Moses Simon and Roma High School Percussion for giving me the opportunity to be a small part of your incredible program and outstanding concert.
