Program Notes
Skies of a Landless Horizon is a piece that blossomed quickly, with the musical themes and ideas existing before the title of the piece. When I reflected on the feeling that playing the music gave me, I pictured a sunrise. The exact sunrise was one over Lake Michigan from the harbor of Port Washington, WI. The way the sun looks when its first appearance of the day is uninterrupted by land is a magnificent sight. I am confident that this vibraphone solo captures the awesome brilliance of the landless sunrise as well as its beautiful subtleties.
