Six Bagatelles was written in 1986 for and premiered by Frank Epstein and the percussion ensemble of the New England Conservatory of Music. This is a newly revised and edited version of the original. It may be performed in its entirety or in various combinations of any lesser number of movements.

Instrumentation
Player 1 (bells, 2 high woodblocks, 2 crotales, snare drum)
Player 2 (xylophone, snare drum, vibraphone, 5 small dobachi)
Player 3 (vibraphone, marimba, chimes, field drum, 5 muffled toms)
Player 4 (marimba, xylophone, field drum, 2 bass drums)
Player 5 (4 low toms, snare drum, tenor drum, marimba, vibraslap, claves, guiro, brass wind chimes, suspended cymbal, crash cymbals, small gong, bass drum)
Player 6 (chimes, 4 cowbells or almglocken, crash cymbals, 5 woodblocks, marimba, vibraslap, bass drum)
Player 7 (large tam-tam, 4 temple blocks, bass drum, marimba, crotales, 2 suspended cymbal)
Player 8 (4 timpani, 2 high tomes, 2 low woodblocks, suspended cymbal, tambourine, vibraphone)
*This work may be performed with 3 marimbas, 1 xylophone, 1 vibraphone, and 1 set of chimes. Any duplicate instruments will provide smoother transitions between the movements.
