Program Notes
Simmons Island is an exciting piece that will challenge intermediate string players to play fast, syncopated rhythms as well as beautiful legato phrases in the slower lyrical middle section. The beginning of the piece depicts the Lake Michigan waves crashing along Simmons Island Beach on a cold & windy day, intensely breaking at the shore. As the wind dies down and the sun returns, the singing slower section portrays the beauty of the waves as they peacefully ebb and flow. Finally, the tempo increases driving toward the end of the piece.
