Program Notes
Silver Emblems was commissioned by the Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, South Carolina in honor of the school’s 25th anniversary and long-time band director Bob Hare. The piece pays tribute to Mr. Hare in measures 85-86 and 91 with the chimes and bells spelling out his last name (B-Flat representing the H as in Scandinavian and German music, A literally as an A, R as the second scale degree of C and E as a literal E). Motives from the school’s alma mater can also be heard in measures 88-96 and 121-124.
