Shimmer was written out of Clayson's desire to create a solo that could be performed with beginner-level percussion ensembles. This is the version for unaccompanied marimba. The piece gets its title from the use of metallic instruments in the accompanying parts, which add a brilliant, shimmering quality to the rich tone of the marimba.

Program Notes
Shimmer was written out of a desire to create a solo that I could perform with beginner-level percussion ensembles. Currently, there are plenty of pieces for advanced solo marimba with advanced accompaniment, but very few that are written specifically for beginner soloists and even simpler accompaniments. The piece gets its title from the use of metallic instruments in the accompanying parts, which add a brilliant, shimmering quality to the rich tone of the marimba.
