Program Notes
Seize the Day was composed in the late autumn of 2010 while living in San Antonio. I have taken great inspiration from this vibrant city and the beautiful surrounding country. The character of Seize the Day is direct and in an approachable American style. The memorable themes and driving rhythmic motives create an uplifting atmosphere inspiring the title of the work.
The piece was premiered by the Susanville Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Benjamin Wade. A second version of the piece was composed for symphonic band and it was premiered by the 323D United States Army Band “Ft. Sam’s Own”, under the direction of CW5 Douglas Paarmann, commander.
