    Program Notes
Antonin Dvořák’s “New World Symphony” was composed while on a trip with his family to Iowa. He drew much inspiration from what he believed were traditional African American musical traditions. Being a major advocate of American composers “finding their own voice”, he used his own style of writing to elevate what he saw as American themes to demonstrate what it means to have your own voice. This arrangement takes the third movement of Antonin Dvorak’s iconic “New World Symphony” and brings it to the world of percussion. Arranged for 9 players, this arrangement allows for every player to be in the spotlight and is perfect for a high school or collegiate ensemble!
