Rook to Bishop is written to showcase the musicianship of the beginning orchestra. Using only quarter notes/rests, half notes/rests, and the pitches D, E, F-sharp, G, A, and B, the piece allows each section an opportunity to play the melody. This delightful piece sounds more challenging than it is and is sure to please players and audiences alike.

Chess – a game of strategy where only one will prevail. From the lowly pawn to the exalted queen, each piece has their part to play in battle. At the beginning of a game, the bishop may appear more powerful than the rook. However, as the game progresses, this balance of power is often disrupted with the rook gaining strength. But if the endgame comes down to the rook and bishop, more often than not, there is a stalemate. Despite both players’ best efforts, no one wins.
