Drawing inspiration from the masterful string quartets of Haydn, Beethoven, and Schubert, Dwayne Rice has crafted a masterwork of his own for marimba quartet that is equal parts engaging, virtuosic, and idiomatic.

Program Notes
Quartet No. 1 in F (2014) for marimba quartet was composed in the spirit of the great string quartets of Beethoven and Schubert. It relies heavily on the tonal and formal structures of the period. The quartet was commissioned by a consortium of 27 schools, groups, and individuals from around the globe.
