Program Notes
From the Provence region of France comes one of the most joyous carols of the season. "Il est Ne le Divin Enfant" (He is Born, the Divine Infant) is a 19th century carol based off the melody of a 17th century hunting song. The text of the carol celebrates the birth of Christ the child and the wait of over 4,000 years for this event, as foretold by the prophets.
This fun setting moves the melody throughout the band through exploring various different instrument combinations. After a jubilant introduction, the music grows dynamically with each section becoming a bit louder and leading to a brilliant ending.
