Written by Jane K (Evgeniya Kozhevnikova) in 2022 for Michael Stanton, Ol’ Sailors’ Legends is a piece for trombone and piano. The piece has a folk vibe and was inspired by reading stories about ocean mysteries, legends and superstitions. The middle part and the trombone solo in particular are meant to represent the myth of the Flying Dutchman, the famous ghost ship that disappeared in a storm in the XVII century and since then have been reportedly seen by sailors. Although the more scientific hypothesis is that sailors just see a mirage, the legend of the Flying Dutchman has stayed alive and grabbed the attention of many artistic people.
