Latin for the word ‘mechanical,’ Mechanica paints a picture of all machinery that surrounds us. Chromatic passages are featured throughout to provide a sense of small parts all working together towards a bigger goal. We invented machines to better our lives, but let us always remember to not let machines get the better of us! We hold the smartest machine: the human brain!

Program Notes
From the early days of humankind, we have used machines to improve our lives. As our machines have grown from more simple to complex, so too has our relationship with them.
Latin for the word ‘mechanical,’ Mechanica paints a picture of all machinery that surrounds us. Chromatic passages are featured throughout to provide a sense of small parts all working together towards a bigger goal. These technical passages featured in woodwind, brass, and percussion, provide interest to both the player and audience, building more intensely as the piece continues.
We invented machines to better our lives, but let us always remember to not let machines get the better of us! We hold the smartest machine: the human brain!
