Marimba Sketches, Volume 2 (2-Mallet Marimba + Piano or Track)

Marimba Sketches, Volume 2 is a collection of five 2-mallet marimba solos with piano accompaniment or track. Each is an arrangement of one of Nathan Daughtrey's popular percussion ensemble works. These bite-sized pieces for 4-octave instrument span a myriad of styles, techniques, moods, and tempi, so they are appropriate for any number of performance situations – from lessons to studio classes to recitals.

Program Notes
Outside of marimba concertos, percussionists do not have a ton of literature for marimba with piano accompaniment. To remedy this issue, I thought it would be fun to revisit some of my most popular percussion ensemble works and create reductions of sorts, giving the primary themes to the marimba. Additionally, we have put so much energy into writing 4-mallet solos that we have neglected our 2-mallet playing. These bite-sized pieces span a myriad of styles, techniques, moods, and tempi, so they are appropriate for any number of performance situations – from lessons to studio classes to recitals.

Three of the pieces in Volume 2 are playable on a 4.3-octave marimba, while two are playable on a 4-octave instrument.

Using a live accompanist is preferred, but if you do not have access, electronic tracks are available to download.
