Lacuna is a solo for marimba with percussion trio accompaniment. The first section is a combination of chordal and independent stickings in the solo marimba part over an ostinato in the vibraphone. The second section is a combination of two separate melodies that employ a similar descending bass line in the percussion accompaniment. The conclusion is a reunion of themes played over a recapitulated vibraphone ostinato.
