    1. Percussive Notes New Literature Review

True to the original harmonic orchestration by Gustav Holst, Ritsuko Nasu’s arrangement of “Jupiter—The Bringer of Jollity” from The Planets is scored for four marimbists. The associated audio from the publisher’s website provides a superb interpretation for this challenging 8-minute arrangement. Careful selection of mallet choices on each marimba will provide a very satisfying performance.

This marimba quartet would be quite appropriate for the advanced undergraduate marimba quartet or for the mature postgraduate marimba quartet. In the early to mid20th century, marimba quartets were integral in introducing major orchestral compositions to aspiring keyboard percussionists and their audiences. Clare Musser would be impressed with this marimba quartet from Holst. Congratulations to Ritsuko Nasu and C Alan Publications for continuing that legacy!
