Journey and Celebration is an expansive overture, full of strong themes and robust writing. It is an ideal opener or closer for a concert, and in the finale the composer has combined his experience of writing for Big Band with the symphonic texture of the Concert Band to produce an exciting finish.

Program Notes
Paul Hart is one of Britain's most successful young writers and performers. He writes extensively for television and films but has also written major works for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, including a Guitar Concerto, performed by John Williams at the Promenade Concerts. "Journey and Celebration" is Hart's first work for concert band and was commissioned by Swindon Young Musicians' Club with funds provided by the WH Smith Arts Programme. The first performance was given by Swindon Young Musicians' Club conducted by Bramwell Tovey at the Wyvern Theatre on 29 January 1989.
