INNERLUDES is a set of five short pieces for struck and bowed vibraphones and melodicas that was inspired by the lush, granular sound of electronic vocoders and other synthesized effects, exemplified especially by artists like Bon Iver, Jacob Collier, and Imogen Heap.

Program Notes
INNERLUDES is a set of five short pieces for struck and bowed vibraphones and melodicas. The first piece, res(pi)t, was composed in 2016 and the remaining four were completed in 2018.
I. res(pi)t
II. palindromic waltz
III. double pendulum
IV. lull∀by
V. sara(∞)bande
There are three unifying elements found throughout all movements:
First, I was inspired by (and attempted to recreate with acoustic instruments) the lush, granular sound of electronic vocoders and other synthesized effects, exemplified especially by artists like Bon Iver, Jacob Collier, and Imogen Heap. Second, each movement draws on a concept from mathematics or symbolic logic for its musical construction and/or programmatic evocations. Finally, each movement is made from a deeply personal connection or nostalgic memory of mine, hence the title “Innerludes.”
– Dave Hall
I recommend this piece with the greatest enthusiasm to any experienced percussion ensemble that is looking for a creative, challenging, and unique piece that is sure to please audiences. The timbral combinations are intriguing, haunting, and beautiful. Dave Hall has truly created something fantastic!
