Program Notes
Inspired by the minimalist works of Composer Philip Glass, House of Glass is an incredible piece of music, sure to bring a sense of tranquility to your audience. The incorporation of polyrhythms gives the piece a minimalist quality that gives the listener a sense of calm. The piece uses a simple ternary form with an A section, B section, and a variated return of the A section. The A section features the use of the 5 over 3 (5:3) polyrhythm, with the right hand playing the 5’s and the left hand playing the 3’s. The B section features the better known 3 over 2 (3:2) polyrhythm. The piece then returns to the varied A section that retains 5 over 3, but the hands have swapped roles.
