Program Notes
Hope is a piece of music that is near and dear to me. I wrote it when I was a freshman in college at Georgia Southern University in 2010, where I had just gone through a pretty bad breakup. Most of the writing I had done up until this point in time was for very small ensembles or piano, but something in me made me write for my first piece for large ensemble. I found it surprisingly simple to do.
Now, writing a piece of music called "Hope" over a bad breakup in college is a little juvenile, I admit. However, throughout my life I have come back to listen to this piece of music to give myself a little hope and remind myself that things will get better. Whether that is a death in my family, or my house flooding, or losing my job, this piece of music has always gotten me through those days. My wish is that this piece of music will give you the desire to keep going when things get bad. To keep pushing. To give you just a little bit of “Hope”.
