Program Notes
Hole in the Wall was written for the 2010 AZPAS Mass Steel Band and arranged later that year for the Chandler-Gilbert Community College Summer Percussion Ensemble. This catchy soca is scored effectively for either ensemble or makes an excellent showcase for combined pan and percussion groups. The tune opens with a melodic bass line in the lower voices and gradually fills in the upper parts before the initial full statement of the melody appears. The middle section features an optional solo section for any member of the ensemble and a playful montuno that builds into a call-and-response between the melodic voices and the congas and drumset. The primary melody returns again and grows to an exciting unison conclusion.
Performance Notes
All keyboard/pan parts may be doubled as desired. The bass guitar part either requires drop-D tuning or the player may choose to play that pitch an octave higher.
