Program Notes
Fiesta en la Calle is a high-energy Latin chart that fuses Tito Puente with Arturo Sandoval and the modern L.A writing of Gordon Goodwin. After the rhythm section sets up a quasi ‘Tumbao’ Salsa feel, the saxophones support the piano montuno before moving into the full band introduction. The chart features unison writing across the band in the melody line and supportive roles within the sections and of course some high trumpet. After a development section and solos from various horn players the chart moves to an open drum solo before returning to restate the themes and ending with a lot of power and excitement.
