This intermediate marimba solo serves as a wonderful introduction to polytonality for the performer and audience alike. While not too technically challenging, Awake & Resting requires a great deal of musical nuance.

Program Notes
Awake & Resting, for four-mallet marimba, was written in February of 2011 with the goal of using two central tonalities. A minor and D flat major are highlighted in this piece and keep the listener guessing at the overall "tonic." It may be advisable to set two mallets down at the end of measure 40 in order to really hit the sforzando at 48 (and make your audience jump!). Pick them back up again before 53.
