Program Notes
Altogether, Grieg wrote 22 pieces as incidental music for his fellow countryman Henrik Ibsen's great Norwegian verse drama, Peer Gynt. Anitra's Dance is one of them. The setting is an Arab tent near an oasis in Egypt. Anitra is a dancer who Peer Gynt has become very attracted to.
